The 2012 Republican Field

Prior to the election of Barack Obama to the presidency on November 4, 2008, two perennial questions seemed to plague the Africa America community. The first was would America ever elect a Black president? The second question was would the first Black president be assassinated? The election of 2008 answered all of the above questions. Nevertheless, nearing the end of President Obama’s first term and leading up to the presidential election of 2012 the overriding question was would America reelect its first Black president? On November 6, 2012, the answer to that question became a resounding yes! Contrary to popular media concerns, the election was a very decisive victory for the President. President Obama garnered 50 percent of the popular vote and 332 electoral votes to former Governor Mitt Romney’s 48 percent of the popular vote and 206 electoral votes.
